Ohio State Career Training Center

The Ohio State Career Training Center is a nonprofit that is focused on improving the awareness of community health and physical well-being through educational programs. The Center offers a phlebotomy program for those seeking to become a certified phlebotomist and enter the healthcare industry. The program’s curriculum covers topics such as the coagulation process, infectious disease and biohazards, precautionary measures with infection control, equipment, anatomy and physiology, patient and operating ethics, communication, capillary puncture, venipuncture, and taking blood culture. The program offers the ability to become certified upon completion, provided that the graduate passes the National Certification Examination which is offered by the National Healthcareer Association. The Center offers both day and evening class options. The program is offered throughout the year, and is offered in two-week increments.

Miami Valley Career Technology Center Adult Education

Miami Valley Career Technology Center Adult Education offers a phlebotomy class, which students can complete in four months. Students are eligible to take the certification exam upon successful completion of the class. This class is both an online and in-person hybrid program. Students will be able to experience 125 arm and hand venipunctures and 15 finger sticks. Blood draw collection and training is done on live volunteers, which gives students very valuable real-time experience. Curriculum topics include: the role of phlebotomy in the healthcare setting, blood collection procedures pediatric and infant phlebotomy, infection control, and best practices in equipment safety. The total instruction time of the class is 72 hours.

Encore Care Association

Encore Care Association offers an online phlebotomy course for those seeking to become a certified phlebotomy technician. Students will learn about the proper practices for collecting blood samples with various healthcare settings such as clinical laboratories, hospitals, medical offices and clinical settings. Topics include venipuncture techniques, blood specimen collection, quality control, the human circulatory system, and possible complications. Externship opportunities are also available. Once students successfully complete the course, they will be able to take the National Healthcareer Association certification exam.
