Jersey City Phlebotomy Classes

There are many programs in Jersey City that will help students earn their credentials as a certified phlebotomist and gain a position in the healthcare industry. Most phlebotomy classes cover content that teaches students aspects of infection control, patient communication, blood specimen collection and handling, emergency procedures, and specimen transfers. Most programs offer both classroom and hands-on learning opportunities in a clinical setting. Students should consider aspects of certification, such as by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) , upon course completion. Additionally, some phlebotomy classes offer externship and assistance with job placement after course completion. 

Americation Career and Training School

Americation offers both on-campus and online phlebotomy training options. Students may become a certified phlebotomy technician within 5 to 7 weeks. The Americation program allows students to be eligible for 2 different certifications – Phlebotomy Technician Certification, and Blood-borne Pathogen Certification. Students will be allowed to work in a clinical setting to gain hands-on experience. Course content includes Anatomy & Physiology, Phlebotomy Equipment and Supplies, and Phlebotomy Theory. There are payment plans and financial assistance available to students.

Always Health Institute

Always Health Institute provides a 2 week phlebotomy technician program that will teach students the basics of phlebotomy instruction. Candidates will learn about topics such as syringe care, winged infusions, blood collection, glucose testing, blood smear and urinalysis. Additionally, students will learn about patient safety, quality control procedures, legal aspects, as well as protocols for safety. The program offers bilingual options, as well as small class sizes.

Finlay Medical Training

Finlay Medical Training is an accredited vocational online e-learning training institute that provides a phlebotomy technician program. Students will learn about blood collection equipment, anatomy and physiology, blood circulation, venipuncture, skin puncture, specimen collection and transport. Students will also learn about the professional elements of phlebotomy, such as patient communication and ethics. Finlay strives to teach students not only the basics of their medical field, but also how to be good professionals when they enter the healthcare workforce.

Branford Institute

The Branford Institute Paterson vocational school campus offers a phlebotomy technician program that enables students to become a certified phlebotomy technician. The program offers internship opportunities within clinical settings at doctor’s offices, hospitals and laboratories. Students learn all elements of being a phlebotomy technician, including blood specimen collection, conducting venipuncture, and transporting specimens. Students will also learn about the administrative components of being a phlebotomist, including result coordination and input, office responsibilities, and physician assistance. Branford Institute programs are approved by the New Jersey Department of Education and Department of Labor.

National Career Institute

National Career Institute’s East Orange campus offers a 90 hour phlebotomy technician program for those aspiring to find a quality phlebotomy program in the Jersey City area. Students can be eligible to take the national certification exam upon completion of the course. Program content includes human anatomy, human physiology, proper blood collection techniques, blood sampling, best practices for laboratory safety and venipuncture. Upon conclusion of the program, students will be able to obtain a position in a number of healthcare settings, including hospitals, physician offices, and donation centers.

Saint Peter’s University

Saint Peter’s University School of Professional Studies offers a Certified Phlebotomy Technician Training program. This is an online class that allows for graduates to take the Certified Phlebotomy Technician Specialist (CPTS) exam offered by the American Education Certification Association (AECA). Students will learn all apsects of what a phlebotomy technician does, including the role within the health care operation with doctors and nurses. Students receive job placement assistance from the school’s externship coordinator. 

AIMS Education College of Health Sciences

AIMD Education offers a phlebotomy technician program in a hybrid learning environment. Students received both in-person and online instruction. Candidates in the program will gain hands-on training from experienced phlebotomy instructors. Curriculum topics include infection control, quality procedures, venipuncture, blood collection equipment usage, test result recording, centrifugation and aliquoting, and specimen processing. Students will be qualified to take the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and the National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) exam offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) upon course completion. The program is 80 hours in content time. There is both 1 month day and evening program as well as a 3 month weekend program. Financial aid is available for this program.
