Malcolm X College
Malcolm X College in Chicago, IL offers a Phlebotomy Program, which is approved by the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) and National Phlebotomy Association Inc. (NPA). The program is completed in one semester, consisting of 16 credit hours and two courses: Phlebotomy 109 Practicum and Seminar and Phlebotomy 209 Clinical Practice. It provides students with knowledge and skills needed to become entry-level phlebotomists, including medical terminology, sterile/aseptic techniques, infection control, safety, stress management, venipuncture and capillary sticks. Upon completion, students are eligible to take a national certification exam in order to become certified. Students can complete clinicals at one of 35 different locations across Chicago.
For eligible students, they can receive free phlebotomy classes if they qualify for the Thomas F. Roeser City Club of Chicago Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support students financially by providing up to $4,000 to cover tuition fees and other educational expenses associated with their phlebotomy training. To be considered for the scholarship, interested students must complete and submit an application form. Additionally, they must be enrolled in the phlebotomy program at the City College of Chicago, demonstrate a financial need, be enrolled in a minimum of six credits, and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.

College of DuPage
The College of DuPage (COD) offers a comprehensive Phlebotomy certificate program that consists of two semesters, designed to prepare individuals for immediate employment or update current healthcare workers on the latest phlebotomy techniques and procedures. The first semester includes courses in basic phlebotomy and electrocardiography (EKG), followed by hands-on clinical experience in the second semester.
Students learn medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical law and ethics related to blood collection in an on-campus laboratory. Chicago School of Phlebotomy
The Chicago School of Phlebotomy offers a comprehensive accelerated phlebotomy program as well as a standard phlebotomy program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to become successful phlebotomists. Both programs cover a range of topics including HIPAA and Patient Rights, Universal Precautions and Safety, Venipuncture with Vacutainers, Butterflies and Syringes, Finger and Heel Sticks, Blood and Blood Components, Medical Laboratory Terminology, Test Tubes – Uses, Additives and Order of Draw, Professionalism, Special Procedures – Bleeding Times, Blood Cultures, Glucose Tolerance Testing and Difficult Draws – Tricks of the Trade.

The National College of Phlebotomy (NCP) is a leading provider of phlebotomy training. Located on the Northwestern side of Chicago, NCP offers a comprehensive career-oriented training program which includes books, supplies, uniforms, and the board exam. Medway Healthcare Institute
The Medway Healthcare Institute is an 80-hour program that offers training for phlebotomists. This program covers theoretical knowledge, clinical skills, and interpersonal development to prepare graduates to work as entry-level phlebotomists in a variety of healthcare settings. Students who complete the program will be able to satisfy the National Health Career Association’s requirements for certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. TTI Medical Training School
The Tukiendorf Training Institute’s (TTI) Phlebotomy Technician program offers a comprehensive and thorough education for those wishing to enter the health care field. The program consists of 108 clock hours over 13 weeks, with 52 theory hours and 56 clinical hours. During the course, students learn technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy such as collection of blood specimens and venipuncture, in both theory and hands-on practice. Chicago Community Learning Center
The Chicago Community Learning Center offers a certified phlebotomy technician program to teach students basic phlebotomy skills and proper preparation, labeling, and transportation of specimens. The course prepares students for exams to obtain the CPT certification from either NHA or AMCA. The program requires 104.5 hours of instruction over a 6-8 week period with tuition costing $1,850. To qualify for the program, students must be 18 years or older and have a GED or high school diploma.
Many students have been able to attend the Chicago Community Learning Center’s phlebotomy program for free through grants and other financial aid options. Scott School of Careers
Scott School of Career’s Certified Phlebotomy Technician program is a two-part formal structured evening course that teaches students the technique of drawing blood specimens, as well as the basics anatomy/physiology of the circulatory system, specimen collection (including venipuncture and skin punctures), specimen processing and handling, infection control, blood borne pathogens, workplace safety and laboratory operations. Upon successful completion of the 90 hour program, students will be eligible to sit for the National Phlebotomy Certification Exam (NPCE) or The national CPT exam and ASCP BOC with additional practicum hours.
It includes a 5-week course and a 30-hour clinical practicum/externship at a local hospital or clinic. Nirvana Institute
The Nirvana Institute offers a comprehensive Phlebotomy Technician Training program that has been approved by the Illinois Board of Higher Education and National Health Careers Association. Excelsior Healthcare Academy
Excelsior Healthcare Academy’s Basic Phlebotomy Technician program is an intensive four-week course designed to prepare students for successful completion of the necessary certification exam. The tuition cost includes all books, supplies, lab fees and exams, as well as certification and administration fees totaling $1,600.
Excelsior Healthcare Academy is approved by the Division of Private Business and Vocational Schools of the Illinois Board of Higher Education, but is not accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. The school assists with job placements and provides academic support.

FSTE Academy
Located on the Southside of Chicago, the FSTE Academy’s Phlebotomy Training Program offers both lecture-style and lab-based training, as well as an outside externship experience. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of their role as a phlebotomy technician, learn about the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system and gain knowledge in specimen collection.
In addition to classroom learning, students will be required to complete 30 venipunctures and 10 capillary sticks during their externship. Midwestern Career College
Midwestern Career College’s 8-week Phlebotomy Technician Program is designed to prepare students to work within the medical world, primarily in hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and doctors’ offices.
