Grand Rapids Comunity College

Grand Rapids Community College offers a 50-hour Phlebotomy Skills for Healthcare course. Students will participate in both classroom and clinical skills settings, including the hands-on experience of live blood draws. Core concepts within the class include collection and transport of specimens, technical skills, documentation, human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, customer and patient service skills, ethics, and venipuncture. Class participants will work with mannequins as well as live draw scenarios. The program is 10 weeks long. Completion of the program does allow for students to be eligible to seek national certification. However, this program does not provide placement or externship opportunities.

Blue Heron Academy

Blue Heron Academy offers a phlebotomy technician program within its healthcare career learning center course options. Located in Grand Rapids, the academy offers a 2 month technician course that boasts low cost options as well as flexible class times. Students will learn about all aspects of phlebotomy, including basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, infection control procedures and best practices in laboratory safety.
